Board-wing fruit bat

Introduction

Board-wing fruit bat (Scando pennae fructus bat) is a species of bat in the Pteropodidae family and is the descendant of short-nosed fruit bat which will inhabit the Earth in 50 million years from now. At the same time, there is New World Kookaburra in the world. The structure of the bat is similar to Hollow Vampire Bat because they are in the same order.

Habitat

The board-wing fruit bats are distributed in tropical area. They can be found in Europe which is parts of the British Isles such as the coastal areas of Ireland, Scotland, parts of the western Balkans, as well as in the North West of Spain, East Asia like southern China, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

They are common in rainforest because it is very good for animal to stay in that there is high rain fall and many trees. The bats always stay in the cave because of dark to prevent other animals to attack them.

Adaptation

Behavioural 1
Giving birth
They give birth to their young more often because the spices of bat become fewer and it is double than before which is four times a year. They grow sexually stronger and faster. Usually, the young will grow to be sexually mature at 5 months and they give birth to their first pup at 7 months old. As the environmental factors, they have to give birth to their young more often to prevent extinction.

Behavioural 2
Move on the ground
They can move on the ground by their feet. Their feet can expand and shrink that they can “walk” on the ground now. They have this change because they sometimes need to find animals for food from the ground but not only in the sky. As the enviornmental factors, their feet have to evolve because of finding the food.

Structural 1

Forelimbs
The forelimbs of this animal are very big because it is used as wings. They are now fly longer and can support more weight. Also, their bones of the fingers are very hard because their wing is not light as bat. They have to fly longer and carry food to their pup. Their fingers are bigger than before so they use this to fight with other animal and grab food. As the environmental factors, they have to fly longer and support more things like food so they have to have a wider wing so that they can fly longer.

Structural 2
Hind feet
The hind feet are stronger than before because it needs more energy to hold its body. It is bigger than before so they need stronger hind feet. The feet are about 20 cm thick now. Basically, the shape and the structure is similar to short-nosed fruit bat which the five toes are curved claw and it support the bat hanging down. As the environmental factors, their feet have to support more weight because thier body is wider and bigger so it becomes thick.

Physiological
Diet
Although the name of this animal is fruit bat, it starts to eat some small animals such as Earthworm, butterflies, bee. It is because the fruit become fewer and fewer as the human cut down so many trees. There will be no trees for growing enough fruit for animals so they have to change their diet from the short-nosed fruit bat’s diet. As the enviornmental factors, the amount and species of fruit decrease so they have to change diet and they start to eat animal.
